Tue Nov 26th/ Wed Nov 27th (Math Board Games)

How can we use probability and percent to create engaging board games?
Learning Goal E 2.1: I can use sample space to represent probability as a fraction, decimal, and a percent
Learning Goal A 2.1: I can show creative thinking
Learning Goal A 3.1: I can work cooperatively and collaboratively with a team

Lesson Plan:
  1. Assign roles in your Team:
    1. Leader
    2. Materials Manager and Reporter
    3. Recorder
  2. Ask/ Imagine/ Plan Activity:
    1. On Your Own on a whiteboard
      1. Do the Ask and Imaging Steps shown below
    2. As a group share your thoughts from the ask and image steps and begin the plan/ create steps together (we will continue working on these next day)
      1. your recorder will make notes and/ or draw a sketch on the big paper
      2. your materials manager will keep the big paper and get ready to share ideas with the class next day
      3. your leader will make sure everyone contributes to the discussion and help keep the team on task
  3. Explore 11.1 page 410
    1. Read the intro as a class
    2. Clarify on #1 - when we are talking about possible outcomes we want to know exactly how the test will end up - number of questions and type of questions
    3. Do 1-5 in your group
      1. Your recorder will makes notes
      2. Your reporter will get ready to share with the class
      3. Your leader will again make sure everyone contributes and help keep the team on task
    4. Get ready to share with the class
      1. 2 volunteers will be chosen at random for each question
        1. 1 and 4 can be discussed together
      2. First volunteer will share their ideas
      3. Second volunteer will comment on the first teams ideas and share their own
      4. First volunteer will then comment on the second teams ideas
    5. While teams are sharing everyone can be using what is being said to complete a Frayer Model for Probability
